How to get scratches out of a glass window
May 21, 2019
Any marks on a window can be really distracting, but when they’re scratches, they can become a permanent source of frustration. They could be caused by an over-zealous dog or a cat hunting down a pesky piece of fluff. But don’t let these scratches get you down, as there are experts in glazing repairs right here in Buckinghamshire.
There are a few simple methods you can use to get these scratches out of your windows:
Before trying any of these fixes, use soap and water to make sure that the glass is completely clean.
Apply nail polish
Nail polish is a brilliant jack of all trades providing several uses, such as stopping your shoelaces from fraying and sealing an envelope. Clear nail polish can be used to touch up minor window scratches. You can do this by dabbing clear nail polish over the scratched area using a small paintbrush and leave it to dry for about an hour. Once it’s dry, add nail polish remover to a cloth and wipe the polish away.
Repair scratched glass windows using toothpaste
As bizarre as it sounds, non-gel toothpaste that contains baking soda may provide the fix to your problem. Apply the toothpaste to the scratched glass with a cloth, rubbing it around in a circular motion for at least a minute. Use a different clean cloth to wipe the toothpaste off. You may need to apply this a few times to completely get rid of the scratches.
Window repair kit
Retailers that sell products for cars often offer glass repair kits that you can use to fix the scratches. The kit will contain everything you need to perform the repair. Be sure to follow the exact instructions, as not doing this may cause further damage to the window. Chat to one of their employees before undertaking the repair.
